UCI Gravel World Series has confirmed the presence of the Sea Otter Europe in the 2025 season. After the success of the first year, the best gravel on the planet will once again land in Girona to hold the penultimate race of the discipline’s most demanding calendar. The Catalan city is doubling its commitment to cycling and will host the event on 20 September as part of the biggest edition of the festival. The 2025 calendar of the UCI Gravel World Series expands the offer with the arrival of 15 new races. In total, the campaign will feature 35 events, spread across four continents. The privileged location of the race in September makes the Sea Otter Europe one of the most important events, as it will award the last tickets for the World Championships, held in Nice (France) in October.

Sea Otter Europe (Girona) aims to go beyond 2024

The UCI World Gravel Series landed in Girona as the star event of the Sea Otter Europe 2024 sporting line-up . All cycling eyes were on what was happening inside the fairgrounds of one of the world’s largest sector festivals. The biggest edition in history hosted a UCI World Gravel Series event for the first time with a stellar turnout. Despite the fact that the then World Champion Matej Mohoric had to withdraw after a crash during practice, the starting grid was full of familiar faces.

Apart from the winners -Matevz Goveckar and Tiffany Cromwell, in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively- some of the most outstanding participants were: Miguel Indurain, Alejandro Valverde, Tiago Ferreira, Iván García Cortina, Samuel Sánchez, Baptiste Veistroffer, Alessandro De Marchi, Martí Márquez, Jan Bakelants and Joris Nieuwenhuis. In the women’s section, it is worth mentioning Alison Jackson, Alicia González, Letizia Borghesi or Sophie Wright, among others.

Girona is one of the favourite destinations for gravel lovers; with an ideal environment and tracks that are perfectly suited to the demands of gravel riders, it has become one of the great showcases for the sport. For all these reasons, 732 riders took the start last year. After this, Sea Otter Europe is already preparing to surpass the records of the first edition.
